Norhill Bungalow
This Heights-area bungalow renovation and addition was designed to keep an airy, whimsical quality while expanding both inside and out to house a growing family. The Kitchen was expanded greatly as the center of the home, housing additional features such as the under stair bar niche, and a hidden baking pantry complete with a marble countertop. The front porch was enlarged to better allow for the evening engagement with neighbors at all times of year. Construction by Stephen Oglesby Builders. Photography by Cameron Blaylock. -
Lubbock Street Victorian
This colorful home in the Old Sixth Ward historic district for a young family began by establishing a few goals. Expand the space and accessibility of the Kitchen, preserve and connect to the back yard, and move the bedrooms from the front of the house to the more private rear (with views of downtown Houston!). By removing a few walls in the existing house, we were able to get an expansive and light-filled Kitchen with a family-friendly dining area. In the connection between old and new, we added large glass doors, and storage. The Master suite looks out into the leafy tree and into downtown for a particularly urban vantage point. Meyerland New Construction
This 2800 SF new home was born when the Owner's existing home flooded in 2015. Using commercial construction techniques, the finish floor is an elevated concrete slab with crawl space below per flood control requirements. Large windows and treetop views were important upgrades. Keeping a low roof profile and a knod to mid-century modular brick cladding helps this new home feel familiar to the homeowners. This house was featured on the Rice Design Alliance: ADAPT home tour in 2019. Photography by Cameron Blaylock. -
East End Firestation No.2
This 1910 brick Firestation, built to accommodate horse-drawn engines, was converted to a single family residence. The ground floor serves as a community gathering space, host to many non-profit, political, and social events. The upper floor is a private residence, a gleaming space with a modern appeal in contrast to the beadboard, original windows and rooftop views. Interior design by Martha Baxter Interiors. East End Folk Victorian
The restoration of this late 1880's Folk Victorian in Houston's East End was a collaboration with a visual artist, resulting in an exploration of visual texture, color, and space which could only be achieved with a rich canvas as this home provided. Photography by Jack Thompson. -
Casita
This 1890's Folk Victorian was moved on to this site in the East End for use as a guest cottage, the "Casita". The owners won a Good Brick Award from Preservation Houston in 2015 for the restoration of this historic home. Interior Design by Martha Finger Photography by Peter Muessig -

Westerman Street
Crafted as a second story addition on an existing brick bungalow, this project has a "cottage" feel on the exterior and a decidedly contemporary interior. Spare spaces with eclectic furnishings, use of bold color with soothing white walls and wood accents, satisfies this family of four. Construction by Gabriel Home Builders. Ridge Street
The addition to this Woodland Heights bungalow was created for resident artists as a light-filled home for a treasured art collection. Contemporary taste and a desire for contrast from the original house, paved the way for corner and roof windows, as well as connecting glass "box" windows. Construction by Ted Anderson.
